How we know the Matrix doesn’t run on Windows XP

How realistic are these movies that show advanced computer systems, like Terminator, The Matrix, etc.? Have you ever seen them install the latest updates?  Removing the trialware that comes pre-installed…? What if they did run like our computers do?
