You may want to reboot your computer and try again... I've noticed that my USB connection sometimes is dreadfully slow, or that iTunes says that this device will perform faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port. Which is what all my ports are...:)Since it's already trying to fix it, I don't think it will harm your iPod if you stop and restart halfway through the process.
